Inside Facebook announced today that the Washington Post Launched Facebook Marketing Agency SocialCode. There are already a number of social media management platforms available including Buddy Media, Vitrue, and The Platform from Syncapse (which I personally use).
What’s interesting here is not that we have yet another platform option available for managing global social media programs, but rather that the Washington Post is looking into this as a new revenue stream.
Old media are realizing that consumers are less willing to pay for information when they can get it personally tailored to their own interests via the people they follow on social networks. Given the above, it makes better financial sense not to sell ad space or subscriptions, but rather the tools that facilitate the information sharing process itself.
